Kew Jungle

Delicate, transparent brush strokes create lines and shapes of glowing colours in hues of yellow ochre, ultramarine blue, phthalo green, primary magenta and cadmium red. Inspired by the tropical hot-houses at Kew Gardens, London, this painting provides the viewer with a glimpse into another world; a jungle made from paint. The fresh, vibrant colours and free, joyous paint-strokes capture the beauty and energy of the plants the hot houses contain.

This painting is part of a series which explores the materiality of paint, its properties, movement and the ways colours combine. This series is also an exploration of colour. It aims to explore and exploit the mood-altering properties of colour, using them to enhance people’s emotional state, sense of well-being and atmosphere within a space through careful choice and balancing of colours and simple shapes.
